It is more different when, for example, a person wants to travel to Canada. He is required for a long term travel health insurance in parallel to buying or booking the plane tickets as this is needed for his visa application. Thus, different countries have different requirements in view of this but it is usually needed upon traveling and staying longer for a vacation or for another reason such as marrying or working.

If a Canadian entered Philippines and his 21-day visa is going to expire sooner or later and if he has plans to stay longer, he has to extend a month or two, depending on his preference. He should go to a Bureau of Immigration sub-port in the Philippines and apply for the extension a week or two before the visa expires. The payment depends on his choice on how long he will stay. His stay would still be covered by his government’s free health insurance and as mentioned earlier, it is good for 3 months.
For other foreigners, the long term travel insurance should be bought before traveling to another country. One can never be sure on what lies ahead. Everyone cannot afford to be sick but it is inevitable at times and so it is safe to be armed with long stay travel insurance.

One can canvass (it is investigating by inquiring certain authorities) which international health travel company is best and cheapest.
